Guide to Preschool

First Little Readers progresses from Level A to Z, matching every child’s reading stage. Each mini-book uses simple sentences and vivid art to build confidence step by step. With consistent practice, young readers grow fluency and a lasting love for books.

Most children begin preschool between 3 and 4 years old. Some programs accept 2-year-olds for “early preschool,” while others start at age 5 as a pre-kindergarten year. The ideal time depends on your child’s readiness—speech, social skills, and comfort with brief time away from home—rather than just their birthday.

Ready for preschool when they follow simple directions, play alongside peers, and manage brief separations. Basic self-help—hand washing, snack eating, tidying—shows growing independence. A spark of curiosity and focus (5–10 minutes on a task) seals the deal.

Can your child wave goodbye without tears and dive into an activity soon after? A quick hug, a confident smile, then off to explore signals growing independence. If they settle within minutes, they’re on track for preschool separations.

Joining group play—chatting, cooperating, or negotiating small squabbles—shows social growth. Comfort with classmates signals preschool-ready teamwork.
